What is an MMSI in Poland, and why is it required?

An MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service Identity) is a unique nine-digit identification number assigned to a vessel or maritime radio station. It is used by marine communication and safety equipment to identify your vessel when transmitting digital signals over the maritime radio network.
In Poland, an MMSI is required for applicable marine communication and safety equipment, including equipment that uses Digital Selective Calling (DSC) and other systems that transmit your vessel’s identity. Correct registration ensures that your equipment is associated with the right vessel and can be properly identified in routine communications or an emergency.
